OL Reign Acquire Midfielder Nikki Stanton in Trade

OL Reign today announced that it has acquired midfielder Nikki Stanton in a trade with Chicago Red Stars. In exchange, Chicago received OL Reign’s natural third round pick in the upcoming 2022 draft.

Stanton, a veteran midfielder, played in 14 matches for Chicago during the 2021 season, helping the team to the NWSL Championship match. In 2020, the North Bend, Washington native played for Club Klepp IL in Norway’s Toppserien, where she started and played in 15 matches for the team and scored two goals. Stanton has also spent time with Perth Glory in the W-League in Australia. She was a mainstay in the midfield, playing on loan for the team in four consecutive seasons.

“Bringing Nikki back home to the PNW is a great addition to our squad. She has a ton of experience in the NWSL and overseas. I’m really pleased Nikki will be part of our group,” said OL Reign head coach Laura Harvey.

The Fairfield University graduate spent four seasons with Sky Blue FC, from 2014-2017 and made 41 appearances for the team. Prior to playing in the NWSL, Stanton spent time with the Seattle Sounders Women.

“I’m coming home! I’m so stoked to be a part of OL Reign. I have heard incredible things about the club,” said Stanton. “I also can’t wait to be coached by Laura Harvey and Sam Laity, who I have heard so many wonderful things about.” Stanton continued, “One thing that has always stood out to me about OL Reign is the unity within the group and the way they stand up for what they believe in. I’m really looking forward to being a part of this special team of players. To be living out my dream surrounded by my family and hometown friends is truly a dream come true!”
